Another real honest post from a posing champion of mine ??? Em’s and my quest is to bring more awareness to these kind of post comp issues. These are topics that need to be discussed and spoken about more so novice & experienced competitors know they are not alone and are aware that some of the most important lessons, strength and hardships come after your competition ?<\/p>\n

“Here goes \u2026.
\nWhich bit would you alter first? The culture.<\/p>\n
I think this is such a powerful image. I think it represents our industry!!<\/p>\n
I believe the culture of our industry is somewhat hidden.<\/p>\n
We high \u2013 five excessive weight loss and restricted diets. We high \u2013 five increased energy output over energy intake. We excuse irrational thinking and forgetfulness by ‘compbrain’ or is it really called starvation syndrome?<\/p>\n
The reason this image hits home to me is I believe the eating disorders that thrive in this industry are the best kept secret. We do a fantastic job of hiding it and to a degree, encourage it. The public see us as healthy and fit, but are we really?<\/p>\n
I feel that only recently are people starting to talk about it. Maybe this is because I was diagnosed with anorexia and now I am seeing more signs that maybe I ignored before.<\/p>\n
I think our industry needs to make rookies aware of potential risks and outcomes post comp. Or maybe we need to educate our new rookies on post comp blues and what you may go through once comp is over. We have workshops to help us on our posing, educate us on our diet and to prep us for competition day. But what workshop is there for after?…<\/p>\n
I had no idea about \u201cpost comp blues\u201d the only reason I came to recognize it was I was going through it. I hated my body after comp, still do. I was binging than excessive working out to maintain my body. I was confused. I felt lost because comp was over and my so called \u201cpurpose\u201d was no longer around.<\/p>\n
As competitors we are constantly fixated on our body, our food , our prep, our comp but like Nat Kitney says \u2026\u201dthere is more to life then 30 seconds on stage\u201d ..FACT!! \u2026I wish I could have known the perspective I have now, then. Because maybe I wouldn\u2019t be dealing with my insecurity\u2019s & fears like I am. I would have known that comp is a hobbie, not my life, and I wouldn\u2019t have ignore other aspect of my wellbeing and health like I did. Rookie mistake? Most likely.<\/p>\n
The point of my write up isn\u2019t to cause debate or argument. It\u2019s purely to raise awareness about what we do, mainly for our first timers in the industry. I wish I knew more before I started.<\/p>\n
When you begin this journey it initially appears like \u201close weight, look hot\u201d but there is so much more to it than that. I believe comp is an amazing journey, one of the best experiences I have ever had. I hope to eventually step back on stage one day, but it will be for different reasons. But for those who are starting comp for the first time, if you are doing it because you hate your body, if you are doing it because you think you\u2019re not good enough, if you are doing it because you are trying to get some guys attention and prove your worth \u2026STOP! Those feelings will be worse once comp is over. Do comp because you are already are passionate about the gym. Do comp because you already love your body and you want to show it off. Do comp because you know its temporary and the \u2018lifestyle\u2019 body you will return to is already your best friend.<\/p>\n
Let\u2019s just talk more about our hidden secrets in our industry. Maybe let\u2019s just start talking to each other. For those girls out there that are dealing with binging, low self-worth, hatred to their lifestyle body and feeling absolutely lost since comp, you\u2019re not alone\u2026<\/p>\n
