? – So many people ask me what I’m doing now, am I competing again, what’s my goals etc. My answer every time is, “I just want to be happy with myself again”. I was training because I loved it, I was excited to see my body change, I had learnt to love myself & be confident in my own skin, which is something I hadn’t ever felt before. Once I felt I had got to the best condition I’d ever been in, I decided to give competing a go. I fell in love with the process, I had so much drive & determination. Every day I gave my 110% to become the ‘best’ version of me. Little did I know, this feeling would be short lived. Post comp, literally an hour post comp- I hated myself. The day after, I hated myself. The week after, still hated myself. The next season, I hated myself. I thought competing for a second time would make me love myself again, but it just made me realise that putting so much effort into your body to give 4 judges what they want, and then being told it’s not enough is just heart breaking. I get it, it’s a sport, it’s competitive, girls put their heart & soul into looking absolutely incredible for that stage time.

So, my answer to ‘what am I doing now’; For now, for me, for my mental state- I am learning to love me. I am building the body I want, not what someone else needs me to be. I want to be happy with my body, healthy in my mind & I want to live a flexible life. Finally, 4 months since my last comp- I’m there & it’s going to stay this way.

Nats tips on setting yourself up for success post comp:

Set goals for post comp. Some on the best advice I got was “True champions and gold medallists have already planned past the gold medal” set nutrition, training, body weight, photoshoot goals for after you competition

  • Love your body first, then set a date to compete. Train hard and eat well not for a competition, not for your partner, not to prove anything to others but for yourself.
  • Realise that what you like on stage is not what you will look like every day. Yes your stage body is a reflection of months of hard work of diet and training which can be maintained to a certain degree off stage but realise that your body on comp day is also a product of carbohydrate, sodium and water manipulation with a flawless dark comp tan (if you go through Midnight Spray Tanning) the perfect lighting and posing!
  • Realise that competing is not your identity – know the difference between identity and behaviour – it is WHAT YOU DO NOT WHO YOU ARE.
  • Realise being successful on stage does not reflect your success in life.
  • Realise that life is so much more than a 6 pack, perky bikini booty and your 30 seconds on stage.

NEVER FORGET – You are beautiful both inside and out no matter how the judges judge you or whether your competing or not. Be proud and do it for yourself-that’s when you will be successful in life and both on and off stage!
