Bikini model and posing client of mine Sarah Savio (Black Bikini)Repost- Physical and Mental – Comp Prep

It’s easy to hear & hard to believe but I have finally come to realise it’s not healthy to maintain your stage weight and appearance for long periods of time. When you consider what you did to reach the weight, extensive hours of training, strict diets, weighting foods and basically going into hibernation on your social life & a big calorie deficit in your last week. Ooo. And followed by comp day pressure running around!

Mentally, this thing we call ‘off-season’ is a time where you can relax and go a little easier on yourself right? During prep you needed everything to be perfect and you followed a plan exactly. From my first experience for season A, I know this all too well, not eating anything out of your diet unless Tim said so, and definitely not missing a training session down to the last rep. I thought that this was going to be the toughest prep being the first but I was wrong. 10 weeks out and although I am back into my gym routine and eating well the body is still saying it’s okay to not go as hard as last prep? It’s a mental battle of feeling okay about off-season breaks. Between becoming single again, gaining slight weight post comp, feeling conscious of your figure despite the fact I should feel proud & not having the comfort of having someone there to tell you your body is okay has probably been the most daunting time I have ever experienced with myself mentally & physically.
I am only now – almost 2 months post my first comp coming to realise it is okay, and perfectly normal not to be able to maintain my competition body all year round, and it is okay to let your hair down when your diet allows.

For any guys and girls out there considering competition, I couldn’t recommend the experience high enough!
Be prepared for people to call you crazy, be prepared to mentally be on breaking point a week or two out, be prepared to smash every work out like you’re an Olympian and be prepared to be proud. It’s a rollercoaster ride but there is nothing more rewarding than waking up on comp day to put on a pretty shiny bikini knowing you have worked so hard to achieve something this powerful and call yourself an athlete.
